IBWA announces new vice president of government relations

Alexandria, VA – The International Bottled Water Association (IBWA) is pleased to announce that Cory Martin has been named IBWA vice president of government relations. Cory’s background includes extensive experience lobbying at the federal level on a wide-range of food-industry issues, including labeling, quality, and matters relating to the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).

Cory most recently served as director of government relations at the American Bakers Association (ABA), where he was responsible for overseeing ABA’s lobbying efforts, grassroots advocacy campaigns, and organizing and leading legislative fly-ins. Earlier in his career, Cory worked as the executive director of the Utah Association of Mortgage Brokers.

“Cory brings extensive experience in the food industry and a strong background in federal advocacy,” said Joe Doss, IBWA president and CEO. “This important combination of legislative experience and familiarity with the packaged food industry will allow him to effectively represent bottled water’s interests to legislators and regulators.”

“We know that he will bring a high level of experience and expertise to IBWA’s government relations activities.”

Earlier in his career, Cory worked for the CP80 Foundation as the director of political affairs, organizing grassroots and fundraising efforts, and at Sego Strategies, LLC, a Salt Lake City-based political affairs firm, serving as a political analyst and lobbyist for numerous public and private organizations.

Cory is a graduate of the George Washington University School of Political Management, where he earned a master’s degree in Legislative Affairs, and he received his bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University.

Cory can be reached at 703-647-4618‪‪ or by email at cmartin@bottledwater.org.

The International Bottled Water Association (IBWA) is the authoritative source of information about all types of bottled waters, including spring, mineral, purified, artesian, and sparkling. Founded in 1958, IBWA’s membership includes U.S. and international bottlers, distributors and suppliers. IBWA is committed to working with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which regulates bottled water as a packaged food product, to set comprehensive and stringent standards for safe, high-quality bottled water products.

In addition to FDA regulations, IBWA member bottlers must adhere to the IBWA Bottled Water Code of Practice, which mandates additional standards and practices that in some cases are more stringent than federal and state regulations. A key feature of the IBWA Bottled Water Code of Practice is a mandatory annual plant inspection by an independent, third-party organization.

IBWA is proud to be a partner with Keep America Beautiful and a supporter of Drink Up, an initiative of former First Lady Michelle Obama and the Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA), which encourages Americans to drink more water more often – whether from the tap, a filter, or in a bottle. Choosing water is always the healthy choice.
