Andy Eaton inducted into the Bottled Water Hall of Fame
Alexandria, VA – The International Bottled Water Association (IBWA) inducted Andy Eaton, PhD, into the IBWA Bottled Water Hall of Fame during IBWA’s Annual Business Meeting, which was held today as part of the 2020 IBWA Virtual Annual Business Conference.
Dr. Eaton’s career spans 40 years with Eurofins Eaton Analytical, its predecessor MWH Laboratories, and the bottled water and drinking water industry.
His time at Eurofins Eaton Analytical included many roles over the years: project manager, laboratory supervisor (inorganics), laboratory director, researcher, and technical director. He formally retired as vice president of Eurofins on June 30, 2020, but continues working in the industry with his own company, Eaton Environmental Water Quality Consulting, LLC (South Pasadena, CA). In addition to this award, Dr. Eaton is a recipient of the George W. Fuller award from the American Water Works Association and the Charlie Carter award from the National Environmental Monitoring Conference.
“There is not a successful environmental laboratory that does not know Dr. Eaton’s incalculable impact on analytical methods through his responsibilities as a long-time member of the editorial board for Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater,” says Edge Analytical Director of Laboratories and Vice President Lawrence Henderson, PhD. “Additionally, Dr. Eaton has served on numerous advisory positions supporting our nation’s environmental health. Such undertakings were performed while leading one of the most respected laboratories in the U.S. and beyond.”
Dr. Eaton has been an IBWA member for more than 20 years, providing valuable input on key water quality issues that have been important to the bottled water industry. He served on IBWA’s Technical Committee, where he became co-chair in 2007. He was also involved with IBWA’s Political Action Committee and is a member of the Drinking Water Research Foundation (DWRF).
“Admission into any hall of fame requires at least three things to qualify for entry,” says Henderson. “These qualifications would include enthusiasm, sacrifice, and contribution. Dr. Eaton has exceeded the qualification on all points. He has an expressed enthusiasm or love for the industry demonstrated by his engagement in all aspects of bottled water; he is ever in attendance, not just merely present, and shares his experience to all.”
In addition to his work as a member of IBWA, Dr. Eaton is a member of multiple industry professional organizations. He has served as an industry expert representative for U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) workgroups and various state and industry workgroups in addition to his role as the AWWA representative on the Standard Methods Joint Editorial Board, according to Brad Cahoon, national sales manager at Eurofins Eaton Analytical.
“With Dr. Eaton’s impressive career, he is undoubtedly qualified to be inducted into the IBWA Bottled Water Hall of Fame,” says Cahoon.
IBWA has inducted 41 members into the Bottled Water Hall of Fame. The individuals in this exclusive group have gone above and beyond the call of duty, demonstrating their devotion, creativity, and love for the bottled water industry throughout their careers. Their association with the industry and civic and charitable activities also exceed those of the average businessperson. Hall of Fame inductees are those who have earned the respect and admiration of their peers for their extraordinary service to the bottled water industry.
